About The Position

A Research Assistant I position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Chen Yao, in the department of Immunology at UT Southwestern Medical Center to study anti-viral and anti-tumor T cell responses. Our laboratory (https://labs.utsouthwestern.edu/yao-lab) has several exciting projects related to cancer immunology and cancer immunotherapy. Successful candidate will participate in research projects and is expected to help maintain the operation of the laboratory. Collects, accurately records and analyzes data in conjunction with other research staff. Isolate, maintain, and culture cells. Genotype and phenotype mice. Use, care and maintenance of animals. Perform flow cytometric analyses Perform PCR and DNA cloning analyses. Perform microscopic analyses. Isolate immune cell populations. Perform cell transfer experiments in mice. Order reagents and materials and oversee inventory. Maintains laboratory records, supplies, samples in an organized manner. Take part in lab meetings and present data. Perform other tasks, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or
  • Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • No experience required with Bachelor's Degree or
  • 2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or
  • 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mouse handling, flow cytometry and molecular biology is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, accurately records and analyzes data in conjunction with other research staff.

  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
