Research Technician II
About The Position
The Princess Margaret Genomics Centre is seeking a Temporary Full-time Research Technician II. Working under the direction of senior staff, the successful applicant will utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in genomics and molecular biology applications; perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data. As an integral team member at the Genomics Centre, a UHN core facility, the research technician must be dedicated and result-driven and will be involved in all aspects of service projects, following SOPs and meeting target deadlines. There will be a special emphasis on techniques for single cell and single nucleus transcriptional profiling assays, especially 10x Genomics Flex.
Requirements
- At minimum, a Bachelors degree in genomics, molecular biology or related discipline is required
- At least 3 years of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques is required, such as: PCR reaction set up and purification.
- Nucleic acid quantification by spectrophotometry and fluorimetry
- Handling of single channel and multichannel pipettes.
- Manual counting of cells and nuclei via cytometer.
- A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies is required.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
- Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines is required.
- Meticulous and detail-oriented lab performance is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment is required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with 10x Genomics single cell profiling assays is an asset.
- Experience with nuclei extraction from fresh or frozen solid tissue and cells is an asset.
- Experience with using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is an asset.
- Experience with Illumina DNA sequencing library construction workflows is an asset.
