The Awoniyi Laboratory studies how the gut microbiome influences and regulates primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and PSC-associated inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Using gnotobiotic and germ-free mouse models, defined bacterial communities, and advanced microbial and metabolomic profiling, the lab investigates how specific gut microbes and their metabolites contribute to hepatobiliary and intestinal inflammation and fibrosis. This research aims to translate these discoveries into innovative microbe- and metabolite-based diagnostics and therapies for diseases with limited treatment options, advancing patient care and improving outcomes in gastroenterology and hepatology. As a Research Technician on our team, you will perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for assigned experimental studies, assist with establishing and scheduling analyses, conduct tests using a range of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, and assemble experimental results for review by research staff.
