About The Position

This Research Technician II position is within the Sulman Lab in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The role involves performing advanced lab duties, including molecular biology, protein chemistry, and in vivo animal procedures, under general supervision, with more advanced tasks under direct supervision. The technician will assist post-doctoral fellows and research scientists in advanced procedures, coordinating research studies, ensuring accurate execution of protocols, and assisting in the initiation and management of research studies. The position works under the general direction of a lab manager.

Requirements

  • Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field, or the foreign equivalent.
  • Minimum two-year commitment required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced lab duties, including molecular biology, protein chemistry, and in vivo animal procedures under general supervision.
  • Perform more advanced duties under direct supervision.
  • Assist post-doctoral fellows and research scientists in all advanced procedures.
  • Provide moderate to advanced coordination of research studies conducted at the medical center.
  • Ensure the accurate execution of research protocols.
  • Assist in the initiation and management of research studies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporate them into the performance of duties.
  • Perform basic lab duties, including cloning, generation of lentiviruses, western blotting, using the tumor treating field in vitro and in vivo systems, enzyme assays, labeling and extraction of cells for metabolomics, animal surgeries, imaging, and irradiation.
  • Assist senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures.
  • Coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Conduct ordering and maintenance of lab supplies.
  • Assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures.
  • Record results of experiments and provide other information in a timely manner.
  • Assist in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments.
  • Participate actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain and update technical knowledge.
  • Cooperate, communicate and relate well to all levels of Medical Center.
  • Listen carefully to others to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information.
  • Communicate ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all research information.
  • Recognize problems as they occur and, through the application of appropriate policy/procedure, determine and/or recommend the appropriate solution.
  • Seek guidance as necessary for the performance of duties, ask appropriate questions when in doubt, and utilize reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy.
  • Advise appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
  • Participate and perform other related duties as required with a minimum two-year commitment.
