About The Position

The Goldstein Lab in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and Department of Neurobiology at Duke University is seeking a Research Associate to provide general assistance and contribute to basic and clinical research. This is a full-time position with an initial appointment term of one year, renewable based on performance and funding. The lab focuses on neurogenesis and tissue renewal in the olfactory mucosa to develop strategies for treating olfactory damage or loss, utilizing mouse models, cell culture, and human nasal tissue. Expertise in single-cell RNA sequencing and biopsy-based approaches for human olfactory tissue are key. Current projects include investigating olfactory loss due to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and understanding olfactory neuroblastoma.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficient Excel skills
  • Basic knowledge of R or Python is a plus
  • Basic bench work proficiency
  • Motivation, commitment, and superb organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of experimental techniques
  • Collecting data
  • Interacting with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows
  • Assisting with lab supply ordering and other routine duties
  • Performing basic duties associated with clinical research, including patient correspondence, scheduling assistance for research visits, documentation, and specimen processing, under the supervision of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery Clinical Research Unit.
