About The Position

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is a significant issue for extremely premature infants globally, affecting approximately 12,000 infants annually in the USA. Currently, there is no treatment to mitigate cortical damage, white matter injury, or hydrocephalus in survivors of IVH. Our research utilizes genetic and pharmacological strategies in established rabbit and mouse models to reduce brain injury and enhance neurological outcomes, holding immense translational significance.

Requirements

At least a Bachelor's Degree in a related science or equivalent skills and related experience.
Zero to two years of related experience.
A simple/limited understanding of scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required.

Nice To Haves

1 to 2 years experience with tissue culture.
1 to 2 years experience with mouse bleeding and surgery.
1 to 2 years experience with molecular biology and assays.
Background in Molecular Biology a plus.
Laboratory courses in Biology or chemistry or biochemistry/molecular biology preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform C-section to deliver E29 rabbit kits.
Care for and feed rabbit kits for up to 3 weeks.
Induce IVH at E29 and determine severity by head ultrasound.
Employ genetic and pharmacological strategies to minimize brain injury and promote neurological recovery.
Perform moderate technical procedures including helping with C-section.
Feed rabbit pups on weekdays and 1-2 times during the weekend (shared responsibility).
Euthanize animals and make frozen blocks.
Perform immunohistochemistry.
Perform Western blot analyses.
Perform RNA extraction and RT-PCR.
Inject blood into the mouse brain.
Occasionally order routine supplies.
Occasionally analyze data.
