About The Position

This Research Technician 3 will be responsible to conduct analytical chemistry experiments to support ongoing tobacco regulatory science projects. Tasks include generating samples, sample pretreatment, and analysis on analytical equipment like liquid chromatography and gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The Research Technician 3 will require strong organizational skills and will demonstrate high work ethics applying OSU mission and shared values. The Research Technician 3 will also help in the development and implementation of standard operating protocols, data collection, and data dissemination. The Technician will also train undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • 0 years with Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 years with Associate’s Degree
  • 4 years with High School Diploma

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, or related majors.
  • Experience with analytical chemistry equipment and sample preparation procedures.
  • Previous familiarity with tobacco research, especially tobacco product analysis
  • Tobacco emissions testing skills

Responsibilities

  • Follow the requirements for keeping laboratory records in the El-Hellani laboratory
  • Sample pretreatment of a variety of matrices including but not limited to solid matrices as in oral nicotine pouches, liquid matrices as in electronic cigarettes, and aerosol matrices as in smoke samples.
  • Conduct analysis using analytical equipment available in the El-Hellani laboratory
  • Communicate results and questions about next steps when assigned work has been completed
  • Clarify any uncertainty regarding procedures, unexpected findings, and equipment issues with the PI in a timely manner
  • Communicate issues that jeopardize data quality, project budget, and project schedule to the PI in a timely manner
  • Ability to design and conduct experiments with minimum supervision.
  • Adhere to the El Hellani Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan, EHS Safety rules, and College of Public Health requirements for working in a laboratory
  • Consistently practice outstanding laboratory housekeeping, including maintaining regulatory compliance, strong organization and tidiness.
  • Help to foster the OSU culture of safety with all visitors to and interns working in the lab.
  • Summarize data in reports and presentations
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts to disseminate data.
  • Help in advancing projects of The Ohio State University Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science.

  • Coordinate with PI for data dissemination to collaborators
  • Other duties as assigned to support departmental and college work.
