About The Position

The Jones Laboratory within the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Research Technician. The successful candidate will support ongoing studies investigating immune responses in the context of tumor immunotherapy, with focus on lymphatic and vascular biology, extracellular matrix remodeling, and T cell trafficking. This position offers excellent hands-on training in animal research, molecular techniques, and immunological assays for a recent graduate or early-career researcher.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related scientific field
  • Experience with at least two of the following techniques: Immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence
  • Basic molecular assays (RNA isolation, qPCR, PCR)
  • Tissue culture
  • Animal husbandry
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with flow cytometry or multiplex assays
  • Familiarity with laboratory animal models (particularly mice)
  • Prior research experience in immunology or cancer biology
  • Introduction to statistical analysis or data visualization

Responsibilities

  • Care for and maintain laboratory mice, ensuring their health, well-being, and compliance with institutional animal care standards
  • Collect tissue samples from animals, prepare specimens for analysis, and assist in necropsy procedures
  • Cultivate and maintain bacterial stocks; prepare inoculums with appropriate concentrations for experimental use
  • Assist with in vivo cell transplantation studies, measure cell engraftment, and perform functional studies of lymphatic and vascular biology
  • Perform immunofluorescence staining, histological analysis, and other immunological characterization of mouse tissues
  • Work collaboratively with the research team to coordinate experiments, troubleshoot protocols, and ensure smooth project workflow
  • Maintain detailed, accurate laboratory records; track experimental data and timelines
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff regarding project progress, results, and any experimental issues
