About The Position

Support University research faculty in providing administrative and technical support in conducting experiments involving transportation systems and the evaluation of results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and one year of related experience or minimum of four years performing similar duties
  • Experience in development of budgets (including labor, benefits, equipment and supplies, travel, and indirect costs)
  • Project planning and scheduling, group and project coordination, client/customer presentation, software demonstration and testing, report writing and preparation of visual aids, and utilizing computer-based tools.
  • Experience in technical writing
  • Experience in supporting and installing PC hardware and software for users
  • Experience administering local area networks, Windows, Unix, and Linux workstations, blade servers and remotely located server equipment, and virtualized machines (VMs)
  • Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, IBM and/or compatible workstations; UNIX / HPUX / SOLARIS / Windows NT & 2000 operating systems; local area network (LAN); multimedia facilities, Linux Workstations
  • Ability to logically analyze data, situations and project requirements, and draw sound conclusions
  • Develop project schedules and testing procedures
  • Instruct persons in the effective use of computer-based tools, software applications, and documentation procedures
  • Translate user requirements into functional systems specifications
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships with coworkers, sponsors, product users, sub-contractors, collaborating contractors and government departments, and supervisors
  • Work independently in the field to organize week-long project meetings and training sessions
  • A background check is required for all regular benefited positions
  • The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Director in writing research reports, proposals, and monitoring budgets
  • Perform project planning, scheduling, coordination and training
  • Assist Project Director in conducting research experiments.
  • Prepare progress reports, technical papers, and presentations as required by project manager or contractor
  • Acts as a project coordinator and liaison with sponsors/customers, acquiring project technical and financial information, coordinating tasks and reviews, and answering questions relating to project matters
  • Develop equipment and software capability for research; test, evaluate, and implement suitable computer hardware and software
  • Maintain documentation on standardized workstation configurations, including hardware, software and integration requirements.
  • Perform software installation, maintenance, and documentation
  • Implement, deploy, and manage desktop software configurations; assist staff and students with hardware and software related issues, such as furnishing information about connecting to computing resources, providing recommendations, installation and troubleshooting of workstations, printing and networking problems
  • Administer PC, Linux, and Unix based workstations and their Internet capabilities
  • Provide administrative project support including reviewing and processing employee timesheets, project equipment and supply purchases, travel requests and claims
  • Administer computer systems development subcontracts with off-campus vendors
