About The Position

Under direct supervision of the PI and Section Administrator, the Research Support Assistant provides technical support for research operations by performing basic research techniques in current projects involving head and neck cancer. This job provides technical and administrative support in a laboratory environment performing basic laboratory techniques, research and analysis under direction. Complies with institution, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

Requirements

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Basic knowledge in coding.
Knowledge of research techniques or methods.
Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures.
Problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail.
Organizational skills.
Ability to learn new research techniques or methods.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Recruits and screens study subjects, obtaining informed consent, collecting research biospecimen and data, and ensuring protocol adherence.
Tracks clinic schedule and consents research subjects.
Collects oral rinse or saliva of research participants.
Follows prescribed procedures to collect time-sensitive biospecimen samples.
Tracks surgery schedule, identifying research participants and collecting samples from OR for these patients.
Interacts with physicians, CRCs, nurses, and other clinical staff to coordinate efficient sample collection.
Helps process research samples utilizing routine research methods to achieve established research objectives.
Follows protocol to ship research specimen as needed.
Follows prescribed procedures to collect research data.
Follows prescribed procedures to keep meticulous records of samples or data collected.
Organizes data into professional format, summarizes results, and presents data to PI.
Performs other related work as needed.
