About The Position

The Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Support Assistant Professor to work in the laboratory of Dr. Ani Manichaikul. The lab focuses on genetic analysis using high-throughput molecular omics data in collaborative human genetics and genomics research. The successful candidate will join a research team integrating whole-genome sequencing with transcriptomic, proteomic, and other datasets. The research aims to identify genes and pathways associated with risk of coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and related traits in large multicenter human cohort and case-control studies. Analytical work will include whole-genome sequence data, genome-wide association study summary statistics, bulk and single-cell transcriptomic datasets, and integrative systems-genetics analysis of multi-omics data.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in genetics, statistics, biology, or a quantitative science, including biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or data science.
  • At least 3 years of relevant research experience following completion of the Ph.D. degree.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition, with a strong interest in the research and laboratory environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with GWAS of chronic diseases in older adults.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze whole-genome sequence data.
  • Work with genome-wide association study summary statistics.
  • Analyze bulk and single-cell transcriptomic datasets.
  • Conduct integrative systems-genetics analysis of multi-omics data.
  • Contribute to collaborative research identifying genes and pathways associated with coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and related traits.
  • Work with junior lab members and undergraduates.
