About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Support Assistant position at the Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence (CECC) at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI). The CECC is a dynamic research center aimed at reducing mental health disparities through service-based, community-based, and implementation research. The CECC works together with the Anxiety Disorders Clinic (ADC) and the Hispanic Treatment Program at NYSPI. The chosen candidate will provide research and administrative support to the Center working under the direction of experienced faculty and staff. This position will report to the CECC Director, direct Supervisor, and Research Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, social sciences, psychology, pre-medical studies, or another related field required.
  • At least one year of experience using qualitative methods.
  • At least one year of experience using REDCap or other electronic data capture platforms
  • At least one year of experience searching literature databases (e.g., PubMed) and using reference management tools (e.g., EndNote)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting research focused on mental health equity, social determinants of mental health, &/or cultural competence
  • Experience recruiting participants from underserved populations and collaborating with community partners
  • At least one year of experience using quantitative methods and Stata statistical software.
  • Experience conducting qualitative analysis using software such as ATLAS.ti
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to research reports, peer-reviewed publications, and grant applications
  • Fluency in Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Recruit research participants and conduct screenings following research protocols supported by the Office of Mental Health and other funders.
  • Assist with data collection, including virtual and in-person assessments, semi-structured interviews, and focus groups.
  • Assist with the transcription of interviews and focus groups, including ensuring accuracy and de-identification.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining research participants' physical and electronic records.
  • Conduct data entry and ongoing data quality review.
  • Assist with the coding and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Assist with the preparation of grant applications (e.g., literature searches, biosketches).
  • Conduct literature searches and assist with literature summaries and literature reviews.
  • Assist with the preparation of study reports and scientific articles.
  • Assist with preparation of presentations, newsletter articles, and videos to communicate research findings.
  • Assist in responding to requests by the Office of Mental Health for information, reports, presentations, and recommendations.
  • Assist with the preparation and submissions of IRB protocols and annual reviews.
  • Assist with the implementation of study protocols in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies including maintenance of study binders and study records including in REDCap.
  • Assist with other research duties as needed.
  • Support the CECC, Hispanic Treatment Program, and ADC by providing research and administrative support as needed, creating and maintaining physical and electronic medical records, and other tasks.
  • Support all CECC staff by scheduling in-person and virtual meetings, preparing agendas, and taking minutes.
  • Handle travel and events logistics (e.g., making travel arrangements, scheduling meeting rooms).
  • Prepare and process travel reimbursements, pay orders, purchase requisitions, order of supplies, and provide other administrative support for CECC/ADC projects and activities. including coordinating CECC volunteers.
  • Maintain CECC's website and listserv to disseminate project and research findings and communicate with research and community partners.
  • Manage the Center's Cultural Formulation Interview online module, subscriptions, and customer support.
  • Register group and individual subscriptions.
  • Process payments and facilitate access to online module.
