About The Position

The Maternal Fetal Medicine research division within Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington is seeking a Research Study Coordinator 1 to join their team. This vibrant group conducts research on infectious diseases, maternal immunizations, and immunity. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Kachikis' research program, focusing on the transfer of maternal immunity to infants, immunity, infections, and vaccines in pregnancy. Reporting to Alisa Kachikis, this role is responsible for supporting the investigator’s research program by coordinating study activities, managing participant engagement, and assisting with key laboratory processes. The position ensures efficient research operations and contributes to the quality and continuity of both clinical and laboratory work. Depending on experience and interest, there will be opportunities to develop SOPs, oversee student work, and participate in other aspects of the research program, with potential involvement in academic opportunities.

Requirements

  • Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for an individual in a public health or biomedical field (Biology, Biochemistry, etc.)
  • Comfort working with participants, including verbal and written communication.
  • Spanish speaking skills are a plus but are not a requirement.
  • Prior research lab experience is ideal.

Responsibilities

  • Support the investigator’s research program, including clinical and basic laboratory research.
  • Develop SOPs, oversee student work, and participate in other aspects of the research program.
  • Recruit patients from UW Montlake Maternal and Infant Care Clinic (MICC) and Labor and Delivery (L&D) unit.
  • Conduct informed consent procedures, enroll patients in the study, schedule sample collection and follow up visits.
  • Use EPIC to locate and abstract enrolled patient clinical data into study database.
  • Perform basic processing of blood for serum and plasma.
  • Organize samples in the lab freezer using freezer works software.
  • Prepare samples for shipment.
  • Track and order lab supplies needed for the study.
  • Participate in shared lab cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
