About The Position

The Department of Medicine, Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition, has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary hourly Research Study Assistant in the Diabetes Care Center. Reporting to the Research Manager, the Research Study Assistant is responsible for downloading devices (eg. glucose meters, insulin infusion pumps and glucose sensors), assisting in interviewing patients, processing labs, as well as verifying data and performing data entry. The Research Study Assistant will work on ongoing studies in the Diabetes Care Center, which conducts clinical research for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Research Group is part of the University of Washington and is based at UW Medicine’s South Lake Union Research Campus within the Diabetes Institute.

Requirements

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented, proactive, flexible, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

Willingness to learn and use electronic data capture (EDC) systems, including Medidata, InForm, and JAEB.
Willingness to learn and use diabetes device software to support study visits and data collection, including Tidepool, Medtronic CareLink, Glucofacts, MyGlucoHealth, Dexcom Studio, and My HealthPoint.
Experience managing research supplies and inventory for study operations; familiarity with sponsor inventory systems such as Covance, JAEB, or ICON is preferred.
Experience with the collection, processing, packaging, and shipment of biological specimens using laboratory and study-specific equipment, preferred.
Experience entering and accessing data in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including Epic, Mindscape, and Cerner (ORCA), is preferred.
Current or previous completion of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Human Subjects Protection (HSP), electronic data capture (EDC), and dry ice shipping training/certification is preferred.
Phlebotomy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare study materials, supplies, and equipment for participant visits.
Assist with study procedures, including administering questionnaires, collecting clinical information, preparing protocol-specific materials, and supporting other visit activities.
Collect, process, label, store, and ship biological specimens according to study protocols and established procedures.
Maintain research supplies and inventory to support study operations.
Assist with clinical research study activities in collaboration with principal investigators, study coordinators, and other research staff.
Support recruitment and enrollment of research participants using approved recruitment methods.
Communicate with research participants by phone, email, and in person to schedule visits, provide study information, and support study follow-up activities.
Maintain participant schedules, study logs, and tracking tools to support timely completion of study visits and data collection.
Assist with study visits and participant activities according to study protocols.
Enter and maintain study data in electronic data capture systems and research databases.
Maintain accurate study documentation, including study logs, tracking records, and research files.
Access and enter study-related information in electronic medical record systems according to study procedures and institutional policies.
Learn and use study-specific software, electronic platforms, and data collection tools as required.
Complete required research training, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Human Subjects Protection, and protocol-specific training.
Provide administrative support for research activities, including preparing study materials, organizing records, maintaining supplies, and assisting with general office tasks.
Participate in research team meetings, training activities, and departmental activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
