About The Position

The Manager, Laboratory Research Operations provides comprehensive administrative and scientific support for the Dean lab, which aims to define and target pathways that increase cardiometabolic disease and diabetes using animal models and human samples. This role manages and oversees the day-to-day administration and operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and optimizing research productivity.

  • Prior experience with animal studies is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with mouse genotyping, colony maintenance, and molecular biology techniques (e.g., western blot, real-time PCR).
  • Preferred experience with mouse pancreatic islet isolation, ELISAs, and fluorescent microscopy and image analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily laboratory operations, including administrative, fiscal, and human resources activities.
  • Manages laboratory inventory, procures supplies and equipment, and tracks expenditures.
  • Develops and recommends annual operating budgets, oversees budget implementation, and financial reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal and University regulations, such as HIPAA, IRB, IBC, IACUC, and EHS.
  • Coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
  • Designs and executes complex scientific experiments using advanced molecular and cellular techniques.
  • Analyzes and interprets research data, and develops and implements new research methodologies.
  • Monitors laboratory animal colonies, including mouse genotyping and colony maintenance.
  • Performs animal surgery and postoperative care.
  • Assists in the planning, design, development, and troubleshooting of animal experimental protocols and molecular techniques.
  • Performs critical analyses of literature relevant to ongoing research.
  • Assists in the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, project reports, and funding proposals.
  • Leads, plans, and manages the hiring, training, and supervision of research staff, including postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to establish standard operating procedures and support training initiatives.
  • Coordinates laboratory meetings and facilitates discussions on current research and laboratory agenda items.
  • Acts as the primary contact for regulatory bodies and other principal investigators regarding technical advice, protocol assistance, and shared resources.
  • Helps other lab members with studies, data processing, and analysis.
  • Ensures laboratory safety and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts periodic laboratory inspections and initiates training sessions as needed.
  • Represents the organization in interactions with funding agencies and in the development of financial resources and programs.
  • Ensures the laboratory is prepared for experiments, including inventory control, ordering supplies, and lab and equipment maintenance.
  • Contributes to team discipline and performance by explaining policies, standards, and processes to others.
