About The Position

The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology is looking for a Research Specialist to join the Sauer Lab to support research focused on host pathogen interactions, antibiotic development, and/or tumor immunology. We are looking for an individual who possesses the following characteristics: Highly motivated and organized, Strong desire and demonstrated ability to advance scientific projects, Excellent work ethic, Thrives in a fast-paced environment, Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, Enjoys working as a team member as well as independently. The Research Specialist will perform molecular, cell biology, and/or immunology experiments to support ongoing projects in the lab. The Research Specialist will participate in problem solving and carrying out portions of projects both in a team and independently. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Requirements

  • One year of lab experience (undergraduate independent laboratory research experience is acceptable)
  • Strong background in molecular biology, cell biology and/or biochemistry
  • Experience with Microsoft products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • BS/BA Degree required; focus in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area.
  • Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s).
  • Collects data and monitors test results
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
