About The Position

The Research Specialist serves as a skilled member of the Graves Laboratory, providing technical, research, and operational support for a multidisciplinary research program. This program focuses on oral-gut biology, stress biology, immunology, microbiome science, molecular mechanisms of disease, and translational biomedical research. The role involves conducting laboratory experiments, collecting and maintaining research data, assisting with data analysis, and preparing reports and summaries. The specialist will also support manuscript, presentation, and grant preparation, and assist with day-to-day laboratory operations. This includes maintaining laboratory equipment, managing orders and inventory, implementing standard operating procedures, and ensuring compliance with research regulations. The position coordinates animal research activities, including husbandry, colony maintenance, genotyping, record keeping, and supporting IACUC protocols. Additionally, the Research Specialist acts as a laboratory safety supervisor, maintaining safety procedures, training documentation, chemical inventories, and regulatory records. The incumbent will train and guide students, personnel, and trainees in research methods and laboratory procedures, assist with scheduling research activities, and contribute to the successful completion of concurrent research projects through scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and laboratory management.
