The population genetics research lab of John Pool seeks a research staff member to lead a project documenting hidden variation within key laboratory strains of the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. The hired individual will lead a research project based on fly stocks received from labs around the world, conducting a series of trait assays on them to better understand their variability (in coordination with undergraduate lab members), and performing DNA extractions to prepare these fly stocks for genomic sequencing. The hired individual will also help our lab manager with a range of research support tasks including preparing fly medium.
