About The Position

The Research Specialist position is part of the Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC). The primary purpose of this position is to operate various imaging equipment, including PET, CT, optical, and ultrasound imaging, in the small animal imaging facility utilizing technical and administrative expertise toward a goal of achieving therapeutic effects in animal cancer models. Technical areas of responsibility include developing imaging protocols, operating the imaging systems, ensuring smooth imaging procedures, and trouble-shooting and maintaining the equipment. Administrative duties include managing the imaging scheduling, adherence to safety standards, and coordinating with other staff for imaging services. Additionally, this position will be responsible for: conducting SPECT/CT imaging with radioactive materials (RAM) and managing RAM usage and compliance to regulations; conducting image analysis and data management when services are requested; and assisting the iLab scheduling and billing platform to provide cost estimates and ensure proper billing. As the BRIC has started providing services for theranostic studies, this requires managing animal model cohorts and conducting therapeutic evaluations with theranostic probes, which often emit beta and alpha particles. This position requires not only technical knowledge of imaging but also of radionuclide therapy in animal models.
