This position provides direct research support and offers opportunity for future experimental and scientific development such as graduate or medical school. The Research Specialist supports the planning, design, and execution of experiments, as well as direct studies. They will use existing protocols and collaborate with other laboratories, working independently with occasional input on modifying, varying or adapting standard laboratory procedures to meet special needs of research projects. Candidates should have a foundation of coursework and lab experience in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, or bioengineering and have a commitment of at least 1 year.

  • Coursework and lab experience in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, or bioengineering required.
  • Commitment of at least 1 year.

  • Undergraduate research experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the design and conducts experimental research and investigations to explore and support lab goals, grant commitments, scientific discovery, and/or development.
  • Performing experiments in the lab include but are not limited to: Mouse microsurgery and postop care, Behavioral tests such as auditory brainstem response, Microdissection of cochlear tissues, Processing tissues for, and performing, microscopy imaging.
  • Maintains research documentation and performs data analysis.
  • Involved in developing protocols, reports, reviews, publications, manuscripts, and/or summaries.
  • Maintaining mouse colony: Breeding mice, weaning pups, genotyping animals.
  • Observes animals, reports instances of abnormal behavior, vermin infestations, temperature changes, and other conditions affecting the well-being of animals assigned.
  • Assists with purchasing routine lab supplies, collects receipts, and monitors expenditures.
  • Remains knowledgeable of relevant scientific and technical developments.
  • Attends/participates in weekly lab meetings, and as appropriate, institutes, and seminars.
