About The Position

The Research Specialist will work in the Devineni Lab at Emory University to study how neural circuits in the brain process information, using fruit flies (Drosophila). Under general supervision, the specialist performs defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and schedules, setting up experiments as directed by the principal investigator. Experiments may include fly-brain dissections and immunostaining, behavioral assays, optogenetic manipulations, and in vivo imaging of neural activity. Depending on the person’s interests and skills, the specialist may also help build experimental hardware or write software. General laboratory work includes maintaining fly stocks and may involve sterilizing and cleaning equipment, ordering supplies, managing inventory, and preparing media. The role maintains laboratory notebooks and computer records, and compiles data and results for publications, grants, and seminar presentations. The specialist works closely with the principal investigator; contributions to experiments will merit authorship on resulting publications. A one- to two-year commitment is expected. Position tasks are generally performed in person at an Emory University location, though remote-work days may be granted at departmental discretion and remote-work status may change with notice.
