About The Position

The Nezami Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (a Harvard Medical School affiliate) is dedicated to advancing surgical innovation and precision medicine through a multidisciplinary approach that combines robotics, control systems, computer vision, and biomedical engineering. Our team integrates cutting-edge research in AI, system modeling, and device design to develop intelligent solutions for complex surgical and clinical applications.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Related Field of Study required.
  • Experience in an academic or laboratory research setting 3-5 years required
  • Must be a problem solver willing to take the initiative and prioritize tasks, thereby ensuring the smooth and efficient conduct of several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform a variety of highly specialized cell culture and molecular biology procedures.
  • A high degree of computer literacy in order to use various spreadsheet, database, accounting and word processing programs to assist in administrative, grant proposal preparation, and research reporting activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills in order to formulate, implement, and monitor a number of interrelated tasks.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in handling of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and prioritize work from several sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for internal and external communications.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in control systems design, kinematics, dynamics, and robotic system integration
  • Strong experience in computer vision (e.g., OpenCV, ROS, 3D reconstruction, object tracking)
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping tools and platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, MATLAB/Simulink, SolidWorks)
  • Familiarity with technical and cost feasibility analysis, project planning, and iterative design
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical feasibility studies and contribute to the system design of robotic and computer vision-based applications
  • Implement and test control algorithms for mechanical systems, including feedback and real-time control strategies
  • Apply computer vision techniques for image-guided navigation, object detection, and real-time visual tracking
  • Evaluate system components from a cost-efficiency perspective and assist in early-stage prototyping
  • Collaborate with engineers, clinicians, and researchers to refine system design and translate findings into functional outcomes
  • Support documentation and reporting for internal use, grant submissions, and publications
