About The Position

We are seeking a Research Specialist who will perform a variety of assays and experiments specific to an area of research, requiring a good understanding of the laboratory's work. This role contributes to various aspects of research efforts, performs routine troubleshooting, and assists with the training and orientation of new laboratory personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • One year of laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute experiments in consultation with investigators, with the possibility of modifying protocols within established parameters.
  • Interpret experimental results, including reading controls and evaluating outcomes, using specialized knowledge.
  • Apply scientific knowledge and lab experience to assess the functionality of experimental components.
  • Train and orient new staff and learners in the laboratory.
  • Assist in the development of new techniques and instruments.
  • Familiarize oneself with published research methods relevant to current experimental work by reviewing protocols and consulting with senior staff and faculty.
  • Process analyzed data into figures suitable for scientific publications.
  • Order equipment and supplies, and interact with vendors.
  • Facilitate problem-solving for entry-level lab members regarding research assays.
  • Participate in protocol development, efficiency, and productivity improvements.
  • Contribute to manuscript and grant writing, specifically by authoring methodology sections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
