About The Position

The Weindel Lab, based in the Department of Microbiology, focuses on the immunology of the periphery and central nervous system (CNS). They study how genetic variants impacting mitochondrial function predispose individuals to neurodegenerative disease and susceptibility to infection. The lab is seeking a Research Specialist II to perform routine and specialized laboratory tasks. This role involves sample preparation, conducting experiments such as cell culture, cloning, PCR, western blot, microscopy, and flow cytometry, working with mice, and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment. The position also includes assisting with data analysis and generating figures, requiring teamwork, coordination with lab members, and meticulous record-keeping.

Requirements

• Ability to perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tasks.
• Ability to prepare samples and specimens.
• Ability to perform straightforward experimental procedures (cell culture, cloning, PCR, western blot, microscopy, flow cytometry, buffer preparation, etc.).
• Ability to work with mice.
• Ability to maintain stocks of laboratory reagents and equipment.
• Ability to assist with data analysis.
• Ability to generate graphs and figures.
• Ability to work in a team and coordinate with other lab members.
• Ability to maintain accurate and timely records of experimental procedures and results.
• Ability to maintain supply inventories for the laboratory.
