About The Position

The Penn Vet Comparative Pathology Core (CPC) seeks to hire a Research Specialist D to provide specialized laboratory support for investigator-driven research studies. The Research Specialist will contribute to the molecular staining and digital pathology services, in addition to the preparation, processing, and documentation of biological specimens used in research projects, and will collaborate closely with faculty, researchers, staff, and trainees to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials for histologic evaluation and downstream analyses. This position supports multiple ongoing research projects and contributes to study execution by coordinating specimen workflows, maintaining detailed records, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with established laboratory protocols and quality standards. The main focus of this position is to provide specialized technical support to the CPC, and as a research specialist, the employee is expected to contribute to the seamless workflow of the CPC by coordinating and managing requests from CPC investigators. The position will entail working closely with the faculty members, researchers, staff, and resident trainees to prepare material for histology interpretation.

Requirements

  • Master of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience with tissue prep and processing is required.
  • A high level of experience in molecular staining and digital slide scanning is also required.

  • At least 5 years of experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Comparative Pathology Core (CPC) Molecular staining Service requests (validation of new IHC/IF/ISH protocols, staining with validated protocols, prioritization, quality assurance/control of materials [stained slides], communication with investigators, etc.)
  • Oversee and coordinate workflow/prioritization of slide scanning
  • Tissue harvesting and trimming.
  • Participate in lab management and help support lab setup and operations,
  • Oversee ordering, organization, and maintenance of reagents, equipment, and protocols
  • Train and supervise other lab members as needed, provide scientific and technical expertise and guidance for other ongoing projects
  • Maintain general supplies for the lab
  • Carry out troubleshooting on experiments and staining protocols
