About The Position

The Research Specialist B will provide support for multiple research projects related to improving gene/cell therapy in the Fraietta Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania. The candidate should have knowledge in tumor immunology and preferably the fast-developing and highly interdisiciplinary field of immunotherapy. He/she must be able to perform high quality polychromatic flow cytometry-based assays, tissue culture, processing of human specimens, cytokine multiplex assays and ELISA. Skills in molecular bilogy such as DNA/RNA extraction and analysis, standard and quantitative PCR, conventional and next-generation sequencing are desired. The candidate is expected to particopate in designing and performing experiments, data analysis and presentation of research findings. The Research Specialist B will manage daily research projects, data collection and presentation as well as organization of the laboratory. He/she must be able to identify and resolve technical problems, and use analytical and decision-making skills to implement assigned projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Previous lab experience in areas of cancer and HIV preferred.
  • Strong background and demonstrated experience in T cell immunology and flow cytometry.
  • Stong experience working on research teams and directly participation in research studies.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares cell culture materials, media and reagents.
  • Performs sample processing for polychramtic flow cytometry on a regular basis, and validates and develops antibody panels for such purpose
  • Oversees IACUC protocol and ordering of animals.
  • Plans in vivo experiments.
  • Performs tumor engraftment, T cell administration, imaging and surgical procedures
  • Provides data summaries, tables, graphs and figures for reports and presentations.
  • Performs data entry and verification into databases in support of early phase cell and gne therapy clinical trials.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
