About The Position

The Dowling Lab focuses on childhood muscle diseases, particularly muscle disorders that present in infancy, including congenital myopathies and congenital muscular dystrophies. Using a combinatorial approach that includes new gene discovery, model organism development, viral and non-viral gene therapies, and both targeted and large-scale screening drug discovery approaches, the Dowling lab is dedicated to uncovering disease mechanisms and advancing therapy development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Undergraduate experience in mouse handling, tissue handling, histology and basic molecular biology preferred
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to learn new techniques under the supervision of qualified lab staff.
  • Ability to work independently after sufficient training provided by lab staff
  • Strong organizational and recording keeping skills.
  • Desire to learn new techniques and biological concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with maintenance and husbandry of the Dowling lab mouse colony
  • Assisting with a variety of mouse experiments, including behavioral assays, dosing and dissection, and performing tissue processing and histology (all with appropriate training provided)
  • Involvement in lab organization and basic day-to-day maintenance tasks.
  • Careful record keeping and notetaking, particularly in regard to animal colony management
