About The Position

Serving as the Division’s Research Services Specialist under the supervision of the Coordinator of Research Services, this position assists researchers in their use of Special Collections materials, both on-site and virtually; maintains Reading Room security; coordinates filling requests for duplication; and responds to researcher inquiries. This position serves as lead support staff in the Special Collections reading room and assists with hiring and training part-time employees, retrieves and shelves requested archival and print materials, and coordinates duplication services requested by researchers. This position also coordinates requests and storage of materials between off-site storage and the reading room and classroom facilities in the main library. This position plays an active role in supporting the Division’s use of an online researcher registration and request platform through assisting researchers as they place requests. This is an in-person position, not a remote position. Extensive in-person engagement in both supervisory activities and formal and informal interactions with colleagues contributes to the successful leadership, coordination, and collaboration and is essential to the expectations for this position. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least two years of experience in library customer services
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of library search strategies and resources
  • Ability to learn and use new technology resources effectively
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least three years of relevant library experience
  • Experience providing reference and research support in a library, archives, or museum
