About The Position

The University of Arkansas is seeking a Research Services Specialist for its Special Collections department. This role supports researchers in utilizing Special Collections materials, both in person and virtually. The specialist will maintain Reading Room security, coordinate duplication requests, and respond to researcher inquiries. This position acts as lead support staff in the Special Collections reading room, assisting with hiring and training part-time employees, retrieving and shelving materials, and coordinating duplication services. Additionally, the specialist will manage requests and storage of materials between off-site storage and the main library's reading room and classroom facilities. A key part of this role involves supporting the Division's online researcher registration and request platform by assisting researchers with placing requests. This is an in-person position requiring extensive engagement in supervisory activities and collaboration with colleagues. Regular, reliable attendance and the ability to maintain positive working relationships are essential.

Requirements

  • Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least two years of experience in library customer services
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least three years of relevant library experience
  • Experience providing reference and research support in a library, archives, or museum

Responsibilities

  • Assists researchers in their use of Special Collections materials, both on-site and virtually.

  • Serves as lead support staff in the Special Collections reading room.
  • Assists with hiring and training part-time employees.
  • Retrieves and shelves requested archival and print materials.
  • Coordinates duplication services requested by researchers.
  • Coordinates requests and storage of materials between off-site storage and the reading room and classroom facilities in the main library.
  • Plays an active role in supporting the Division’s use of an online researcher registration and request platform through assisting researchers as they place requests.
