About The Position

This exciting role offers a unique platform within the School of Medicine at CU Anschutz to solve challenging biomedical questions using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry. You will join a productive team utilizing bioanalytical methods to investigate complex issues in health and disease. Working under the direction of the Core Manager and Director, you will handle the full experimental lifecycle—from biomolecule extraction and sample preparation of cell cultures and tissues to the application of bioinformatics for data analysis. This position is designed for professional development, where you will manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high quality control standards. Your day-to-day work involves performing analytical test processes, maintaining sophisticated instrumentation, and collaborating with Principal Investigators (PIs) to communicate findings. This is a highly collaborative position, and successful candidates will have the opportunity for authorship on original manuscripts based on their research contributions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year professional level research experience
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Responsibilities

  • Utilize various laboratory techniques to perform experiments, including biomolecule extraction and the preparation of complex biological samples for mass spectrometry.
  • Acquire and analyze proteomics data using statistical methods, bioinformatics, and data analysis software to evaluate research results.
  • Manage the maintenance and quality control of technical analytical equipment, including preparing buffers and internal standard solutions.
  • Meet with faculty, students, and researchers to present technical results through both oral and written reports.
  • Ensure the lab is prepared for daily operations by ordering supplies, maintaining instruments, software, and computers, and ensuring compliance with safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Maintain rigorous laboratory research records of all experiments performed, including the management of data archives and research notebooks to be used for publications.
  • Assist in generating written protocols and developing recommendations to resolve process or unit issues.
