The Bruckerhoff Freshwater Community Ecology Lab is hiring a research senior technician to collect fish, habitat, and water quality data in Ohio streams and rivers and design and implement laboratory and field research projects. This position requires extensive field sampling of fish and invertebrate communities using a variety of techniques, including backpack electrofishing, seining, PIT tagging, and boat electrofishing. When not in the field, the incumbent would oversee and execute: 1) preparing and aging otoliths; 2) sample sorting and identification of fish and invertebrates; 3) designing and conducting laboratory experiments; 4) database management; 5) geospatial analysis; and 6) independent data analysis and writing of reports and manuscript. The technician will be expected to perform statistical analysis, present findings to professional stakeholder audiences, and prepare final research reports for funding agencies and manuscripts to submit for peer-reviewed publication. The technician will also be expected to train less experienced colleagues in the laboratory group and independently (without supervisor approval) anticipate, recognize, and solve routine issues associated with ecological research in the field and laboratory. The technician will also need to independently problem solve to deal with infrequent or unusual issues that may arise. The research technician will be expected to work independently to solve problems based on established protocols and precedent established in the research group. Travel may be required to site locations.
