About The Position

The Beirne Carter Center for Immunology Research (CIC) at the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine seeks a Research Scientist to join the Ewald Lab at the CIC. The successful applicant must have demonstrated experience in innate immunology, microbiology and/or biochemistry. The work will require the incumbent to display significant knowledge concerning mechanisms of host-parasite/pathogen interactions and innate immunity. Additionally, the position requires experience in molecular and cellular biology, genetic manipulation of host cells and/or pathogens (ideally Toxoplasma or related protozoa), protein biochemistry, animal models of infection, and working with omics datasets. Requirements

  • Doctoral degree required
  • MINIMUM of 3 years postdoctoral experience
  • Demonstrated experience in innate immunology, microbiology and/or biochemistry
  • Significant knowledge concerning mechanisms of host-parasite/pathogen interactions and innate immunity
  • Experience in molecular and cellular biology
  • Experience in genetic manipulation of host cells and/or pathogens (ideally Toxoplasma or related protozoa)
  • Experience in protein biochemistry
  • Experience in animal models of infection
  • Experience working with omics datasets

Responsibilities

  • Full-time research and/or scholarship at the University
  • Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career
  • Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of laboratory, as applicable
  • Participate in a range of relevant lab projects and write study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications
  • Develop research programs
  • Attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CIC-related seminars
  • Work with graduate students, technicians, fellows, and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project
