We are hiring a Research Scientist (Casual, 15 hrs/week) to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, TX. In this role, you will perform data collection, cleaning, management, analysis of epidemiologic research, manuscript and report writing, dissemination of study findings. Position Summary: Plans, supervises, and directs research, investigation, or other technical operations related to community-based public health research projects. Provides technical expertise to facilitate the design, implementation, management, and analysis of research procedures, techniques, and results, enabling investigators to conduct school- and community-based research projects focused on nutrition, chronic disease prevention, behavioral health, etc.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree required
  • 2 years of experience in a related research environment and have verifiable publications within the field of the research project required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with community-based or public health research, preferred.
  • Experience managing and analyzing quantitative and qualitative datasets, preferred.
  • Familiarity with research/data analysis platforms, preferred.
  • Experience supporting manuscript development, scientific writing, and grant preparation, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Determines feasibility of possible projects to ensure results will have a significant impact.
  • Determines project feasibility in terms of staff, time, and resources.
  • Plans and performs quantitative and qualitative research procedures related to community-based public health and behavioral research initiatives.
  • Identifies research problems through collaboration with investigators, community partners, healthcare partners, and literature reviews.
  • Formulates research problems or projects for investigation and analysis.
  • Designs procedures to solve research problems and improve existing research processes and analysis capabilities.
  • Leads Brighter Bites Acres Homes data management activities, including codebook development, data cleaning, quality control, and data analysis.
  • Supports overall Brighter Bites process evaluation and intervention analysis efforts.
  • Supports analysis activities related to Brighter Bites 2.0 and other Food is Medicine research initiatives.
  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analysis and evaluates findings from research activities.
  • Analyzes qualitative research data and supports dissemination through manuscript preparation, conference abstracts, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Collaborates with faculty investigators, students, and research staff on publication development and submission activities.
  • Presents results in written reports, manuscripts, presentations, meetings, and through collaboration with faculty members and research teams.
  • Supports faculty grant writing and proposal development efforts, including literature reviews, scientific writing, and preparation of supporting materials.
  • Provides work direction and guidance to personnel within the department and research projects.
  • May lead projects and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
