About The Position

The Nurse Scientist assumes responsibility for the promotion and coordination of nurse-led clinical research, evidence-based practice projects, and quality improvement initiatives across the Alaska regions. This includes leading activities aimed to promote, adopt, and embrace a culture of professional practice and attainment of excellence in clinical outcomes. Serves as a liaison to system-level Nursing Institute initiatives including Magnet,® Clinical Scholarship and Inquiry, Quality Improvement, and the Institutional Review Board. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Business, or other related area. If the master’s degree is not in nursing, then the baccalaureate degree or doctorate must be in Nursing.
  • Direct to Master’s Degree in Nursing Program and Registered Nurse licensure (also called Accelerated Nursing Degree Programs) meets the Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree requirements.
  • BSN to PhD program, with or without a formal master’s degree meets this requirement.
  • Ph.D. in Nursing, Education, or related program.
  • Completion of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program does meet this requirement.
  • Upon hire: Alaska Registered Nurse License
  • Upon hire: Professional certification in this field approved by ANCC such as Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), or completed within 2 years of hire into the position
  • 5 years acute care nursing experience

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Experience as a PI or CoPI, or directing one or more research studies; this experience may be gained during enrollment in an accredited PhD or EdD program.
  • 1 year teaching research processes to/for RNs; this experience may be gained during enrollment in an accredited PhD or EdD program
  • 1 year success in securing extramural funding for research.
  • Primary authorship of peer-reviewed publication
  • 5 years leading or facilitating quality and evidence-based improvement projects; this experience may be gained during enrollment in an accredited PhD or EdD program.
