About The Position

The Research Scientist will play a key supporting role in the sponsoring research program. This role involves significant contributions to grant writing and potentially serving as a co-principal investigator on extramural grant applications. The Research Scientist will act as the principal investigator's representative, both internally and externally, and may attend national or international meetings on their behalf. This position requires bringing a unique skill, technique, or knowledge to the program and will involve significant participation in personnel and resource management. The individual will independently manage assigned projects and those of other program personnel, provide input on the direction and design of others' projects, and direct teaching activities within the investigator's program.

Requirements

  • Doctoral level degree.
  • A minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral research training at Mayo or elsewhere.
  • Must hold academic rank (i.e. Instructor, Assistant Professor) at Mayo at the time of accepting the Research Scientist position or achieve it immediately thereafter.
  • Must bring a unique skill, technique or knowledge to the sponsoring program as documented by professional accomplishments and publication record.
  • Must have made a career decision to pursue regular employment at Mayo in support of an established research staff program.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key supporting role in the sponsoring research program.
  • Significantly contribute to grant writing.
  • Serve as co-principal investigator (if necessary) on extramural grant applications.
  • Apply as co-investigator or co-principal investigator for extramural grants or contracts in collaboration with the Mayo sponsor.
  • Serve as the principal investigator's internal and external representative and resource contact person for the research program.
  • Represent the principal investigator at national or international meetings if necessary.
  • Bring a unique skill, technique or knowledge to the program.
  • Significantly participate in personnel and resource management on behalf of the principal investigator.
  • Independently manage assigned projects and the projects of other program personnel.
  • Provide input for the direction and design of other's projects.
  • Direct teaching activities within the investigator's program.
