About The Position

Meta is seeking Research Interns to join its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) Communication & Language teams. The teams advance artificial intelligence through fundamental breakthroughs in technologies that help machines interact with and understand the world. The role is suited to candidates passionate about natural language processing, audio and speech processing, computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning. Interns have the opportunity to make core algorithmic advances and apply their ideas at scale. Areas of interest include frontier model training (pretraining, midtraining, SFT/RL), cross-lingual and cross-domain transfer learning, multimodal understanding, reasoning and generation, generative modeling such as diffusion and flow matching, and modeling for the physical world. Internships last 12 to 24 weeks, with various start dates throughout the year. Interns perform research, develop and test novel solutions, report and present findings, and contribute research that can be applied to Meta product development.

Requirements

  • Currently have or be in the process of obtaining a PhD in Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or an equivalent field.
  • Research and/or work experience in LLMs, Speech Processing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or an equivalent area.
  • Experience with Python, C++, or other related programming languages.
  • Obtain work authorization in the country of employment by the time of hire and maintain authorization during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A track record of significant results, demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, or publications at leading AI conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, EMNLP, or Interspeech.
  • Experience advancing AI, including contributions to open-source libraries and frameworks.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing complex, large-scale, high-dimensional data from varying sources.
  • Experience using theoretical and empirical research to solve problems.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
  • Intent to return to a degree program after completing the internship/co-op.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research that enables learning the semantics of data, including text, audio, images, video, and other modalities.
  • Brainstorm with research mentors and review literature and existing solutions to challenging real-world research problems.
  • Develop novel solutions, implement prototypes, and conduct extensive experiments using meaningful benchmarks and metrics.
  • Analyze experimental results and verify conclusions.
  • Draft and polish research reports and/or publications.
  • Present research outcomes to internal and/or external audiences.
  • Contribute research that can be applied to Meta product development.
