Research Scientist III - Gustafson Lab
About The Position
The Exploring Dysregulation of Immunity in Tumors (also known as EDIT Labs or the Gustafson Lab) is housed within the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders Research at Seattle Children’s Research Institute. The goal of EDIT labs is to train a child’s own immune system to eliminate cancer by understanding and re-training the innate immune system. The work is highly cross-disciplinary, collaborative, and spans from the bench to the clinic. The team is defined by positive attitudes, a love of science, creativity, hard work, hope for the future, and a desire to help children with cancer. The hired candidate will be motivated to take on challenging problems with innovative solutions, potentially borrowing technologies and concepts from various fields. Training in unfamiliar techniques will be provided, but enthusiasm and initiative to learn new methods, a flexible work schedule, and efficient, careful work with detailed note-taking and record-keeping are required.
Requirements
- PhD Degree level in applicable science field/related field OR Master's Degree in applicable science field/related field plus minimum three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor's Degree or higher in applicable science field / related field plus minimum five (5) years of related experience with a robust publication record.
- Demonstrated work experience (at least five years) within a laboratory setting with strong letters of reference attesting to the candidate’s attention to detail with excellent record keeping and observational analysis.
- Demonstration of efficient, successful problem solving with highly creative and innovative solutions.
- The ability to use independent judgement to address tasks and projects, and successful identification and refinement of existing procedures and practices.
- A positive attitude, a desire to learn, and an ability to work independently and as a member of an integrated team.
Nice To Haves
- A degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Genetic Engineering or Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering.
- PhD in relevant specialty area or closely related field.
- Substantial prior experience in relevant area of research.
