About The Position

The Knowledge Portal Network (KPN) group at the Broad Institute seeks a Scientist I to help translate research methods and community needs into robust, user-facing scientific resources. This role will join the product and engagement and partner with engineers, and research staff, to productionize analytical methods, shape technical priorities, and develop standards, documentation, demonstrations, and scientific communications that illustrate the value of our knowledge portals and data integration platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong computational genomics experience with scientific software development, cross-functional collaboration, and a commitment to making complex biological data usable for researchers.

Requirements

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, computer science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical documentation and scientific presentations.
  • Experience developing computational analyses, scientific software, or data pipelines in Python, R, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional scientific project teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating genetic, genomic, functional genomics into databases, browsers, portals, or knowledge resources.
  • Experience with data standards, schemas, or interoperable data representations.
  • Experience coordinating work across distributed collaborators, consortia, or multi-stakeholder scientific projects.

Responsibilities

  • Part of the Product and Engagement team to translate user and stakeholder requirements into research, engineering, and delivery plans.
  • Collaborate with engineers and research staff to productionize computational methods, data models, and scientific workflows for Knowledge Portal Network resources.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate software, pipelines, and data integration approaches for genomic and functional genomics datasets.
  • Help establish and maintain standards for data representation, interoperability, documentation, and reproducible scientific software practices.
  • Develop technical documentation, example analyses, demos, and training materials that support adoption of portal resources by internal and external users.
  • Contribute to scientific findings through analyses, figures, presentations, posters, manuscripts, and progress reports.
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Engage with external collaborators and community standards efforts as appropriate to support integration within the KPN with the broader scientific resource ecosystem.
  • Participate in cross-functional planning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of portal features, scientific content, and user-facing workflows.
