About The Position

The DeWitt lab at the University of Washington's Department of Genome Sciences has an excellent opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1. This interdisciplinary research lab focuses on quantitative and computational biology, with core expertise in evolutionary dynamics and quantitative immunology. They utilize scientific computing, mathematical and biophysical modeling, and machine learning. The lab aims to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment where all members are knowledgeable in theory, computation, and experiment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or related field
  • One year of experience in computational biology, applied mathematics, or statistics
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting computational and quantitative research via data analysis and modeling, working with sequence and variant effect data - 65%
  • Draft relevant sections of manuscripts and create polished figures – 15%
  • Compose correspondence to provide or request information – 5%
  • Work with programmers, biologists, and engineers to coordinate activities 5%
  • Participate in meetings and present research – 5%
  • Perform related duties as required – 5%
