About The Position

The Computational Biology Program Scientist will be instrumental in building and maintaining robust computational systems that drive computational microbiology and microbiome science forward. This role involves improving newly released and emerging pipelines (including PHLAME and AccuSNV) to be capable of greater scale, leading new research projects using these and other tools, and working closely with PI Tami Lieberman on new directions.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Genomics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience with microbial genomics.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub.
  • Demonstrated expertise with workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people.
  • Capacity to translate complex biological questions into actionable computational approaches.

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of experience in microbial genomics.
  • Experience building conda packages.
  • Familiarity with machine learning applications.
  • Knowledge of metabolic modeling.
