About The Position

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking a Research Scientist for a federally funded position. This role will focus on Cancer Biology and Stem Cell Biology within the laboratory of Dr. Lu Le, Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology. The lab investigates how genetic and microenvironmental factors regulate tumorigenesis, focusing on identifying the cell of origin and elucidating the role of the tumor microenvironment in cancer development. The research dissects cellular and molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis from a developmental perspective, using Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) as a model. The lab has also identified follicular epithelial cells that give rise to hair and mechanisms of hair graying, leading to research into potential treatments for balding and age-associated hair graying. The laboratory provides a rich experimental environment for both basic and translational research.
