The Research Project Coordinator supports the overall development of research project(s), assisting with project design, management, and implementation. This role promotes the project and serves as a liaison between the project and contacts internal and external to the University. The position may involve supervising students, providing general office assistance, creating promotional materials, and assisting in the development of other potential projects. Specifically, this role supports the Mental Health Awareness and Literacy Training for First Responders initiative, which aims to provide mental health awareness and literacy training across all 67 Alabama counties. The training will help individuals recognize the signs of mental illness, de-escalate crises, and connect those in need to services, targeting first responders, public safety, and criminal justice personnel. The project will train participants to recognize mental disorder signs, establish linkages with community mental health agencies, employ crisis de-escalation techniques, and educate about available resources. The project will utilize the evidenced-based Mental Health First Aid program. The Project Coordinator will be required to become a certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer and will coordinate all project-related activities, assist in communicating with local and statewide boards, develop and deliver training, maintain records, write annual reports, communicate with the Project Support Team, ensure data collection, oversee record security, develop website content, organize meetings, monitor resource utilization and project timelines, and handle day-to-day office operations.
