About The Position

Under general direction, coordinates the day-to-day administration of assigned clinical research studies which require significant independent clinical judgment and assessment in utilizing the research instruments. Depending on the study, independently recruits, screens, and enrolls study subjects, schedules subjects for visits, administers the research instruments, leads groups or provides training/education, and ensures that subjects complete all requirements for the study(ies). Has significant responsibility for the design and revision of research forms and instruments. Works effectively with contacts within Sheppard Pratt and at other Baltimore area patient program sites in order to recruit study subjects. Demonstrates an understanding of patients/individuals with serious mental illness in communications with study subjects. Records and maintains study data. Reports relevant medical and clinical information to the principal investigator, nurse (if applicable), and other study investigators. On a project-related basis, provides direction to Assistant Research Project Coordinators.

Requirements

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • General knowledge of psychopathology of persons with serious mental illness.
  • Post-graduate experience in a research coordinator, research assistant, or equivalent position.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Independent analytical ability sufficient to accurately utilize study rating scales and research instruments, design or revise research forms, and appropriately identify concerns to bring to the attention of the study principal.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to actively recruit study subjects, interact effectively with chronically mentally ill patients and program staff of SP and external programs, and direct the work of non-exempt research staff (51-80% of work time).
  • Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail in performing research tasks.
  • Ability to handle frequent (21-50% of work time) high levels of mental/visual fatigue.
