This role is an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Research Program Manager within the Department of Population Health. The position is responsible for the overall management and operations of a lab and research program, ensuring the timely development of activities and execution of deliverables within budget and timelines. The Research Program Manager will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and/or lab director and team to achieve research priorities and ensure compliance. The role will oversee a portfolio of primarily NIH-funded research focused on comparative effectiveness and decision science, addressing areas such as HIV, substance use disorders, and cardiovascular disease. The position provides critical management and direction to an active research program led by Dr. Scott Braithwaite, including domestic and international studies. The Research Program Manager will offer leadership, administrative direction, and manage regulatory activities for all of Dr. Braithwaite's studies, in collaboration with departmental and division administrators. This includes project management of grant-funded activities, day-to-day management of research activities and staff, and coordination of new grant applications. A successful applicant will have experience managing NIH-funded research projects, supervising staff, and be comfortable in an academic medical center environment.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Oversees a portfolio of research projects, sets and manages timelines, analyzes and manages resources, ensures adequate reporting and documentation, organizes and delegates tasks, and monitors project goals, deliverables, budgets, and resource allocation in collaboration with project teams.
  • Identifies and addresses obstacles and program operational issues.
  • Sets agendas and directs internal team project meetings.
  • Ensures that study activities are carried out in accordance with sponsor guidelines and budget restrictions.
  • Identifies, responds to, and participates in the resolution of potential and actual problems in study operations and participant activities.
  • Monitors recruitment and tracks study progress to ensure that timelines and quality are maintained.
  • Oversees data registries, including ensuring the quality and completeness of research data.
  • Provides leadership and management to a growing research team of 5+ members, including mathematical modelers, research coordinators, data analysts, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants.
  • Directs the hiring and training of new staff and addresses performance issues.
  • Institutes and maintains a reporting structure, staff development activities, team operations, and professional growth.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Manages regulatory requirements and critical documents for Dr. Braithwaites studies.
  • Drafts IRB and sponsor correspondence relating to regulatory, QA and DSMB issues and actions.
  • Responsible for submissions to both NYU Langone Health's IRB and external IRBs.
  • Serves as a liaison between all involved stakeholders for multi-institutional collaborative projects.
  • Ensures effective ongoing communications with all collaborators.
  • Tracks collaboration deliverables.
  • Builds and maintains critical relationships.
  • Travels to domestic and international partner sites to deliver progress updates and conduct workshops.
  • Contributes to content and logistics planning for trips.
  • Develops and submits progress reports to research sponsors, including reporting on deliverables, regulatory status, financial reports, and progress updates.
  • Manages daily administrative operations of the program.
  • Develops fluency in NYU Langone Health systems, including Research Navigator, PeopleSoft, MyTime, NYULH Learning, etc. for managing administrative and financial functions.
  • Guides new grant application process.
  • Coordinates efforts among study team, Grants Management, and Sponsored Programs Administration.
  • Drafts application elements.
  • Reviews and edits scientific content.
  • Co-authors presentations, manuscripts, and routine stakeholder updates.
  • Represents the research team at meetings and conferences.
  • Maintains/enhances professional growth and development through participation in seminars, professional affiliations, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in the fields of comparative effectiveness and decision science as well as project management and people management.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
