About The Position

The Center for Advanced Radiation Sources at the University of Chicago seeks applications for a Beamline Scientist to participate in synchrotron radiation studies on tomographic research techniques for improved data acquisition, reconstruction, and data analysis for the study of rocks and fluids at the temperature, pressure, and strain conditions of the shallow crust. This research is important for understanding shallow earthquakes, for improved understanding of oil and gas reservoirs, and for CO2 sequestration. The techniques that the scientist will develop will also be used for a variety of other imaging studies, including soils, biological systems, meteorites, and many more.
