About The Position

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary Research Laboratory Technician to work part-time on site in Miami. The Research Laboratory Technician aids scientists in their experiments by monitoring and recording their findings. Moreover, the Research Laboratory Technician ensures laboratory compliance with applicable safety regulations.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Commitment to the University’s core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Basic molecular biology skills

Responsibilities

Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment.
Keeps records of research data and assists in analyzing it.
Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
Proofreads and assists in the writing of manuscripts, grant proposals, and lab protocols.
Prepares reports of experiment results.
Performs research by completing simple experiments or steps in more complicated studies.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Assist with cell biology experiments (cell culture flow cytometry), and basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA and RNA purification and quantification.
Handling of mice, and performing in vivo mouse experiments as outlined in our IACUC protocols.
