About The Position

The Neural Plasticity and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory (NPNL) at the University of Southern California, under the direction of Dr. Sook-Lei Liew, is seeking a highly motivated Research Lab Technician II. The lab focuses on applying data science and AI to neuroimaging and genetics, utilizing large-scale structural MRIs and behavioral datasets to investigate brain-behavior relationships post-stroke. The lab also contributes to national clinical trials involving brain stimulation (e.g., transcranial magnetic stimulation - TMS) and telerehabilitation to predict and enhance stroke outcomes. This role involves collaboration with numerous research partners globally. More information about the NPNL is available at http://npnl.usc.edu.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field (or will soon have).
  • Highly motivated, organized, willing to learn, adaptable, detail-oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Takes initiative.
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years.
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.
  • Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical knowledge of neuroimaging and brain anatomy.
  • Extensive experience with organizing, maintaining and analyzing large brain imaging datasets.
  • Programming expertise with python, Bash and cloud computing.
  • Experience with Brain Imaging Data Standards (BIDS).
  • Experience with structural MRI—based neuroimaging software programs (e.g., FreeSurfer, ITKSna).
  • Experience with statistics/machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Working with a number of research partners worldwide.
  • Organizing, maintaining, and analyzing large brain imaging datasets.
  • Conducting research using data science and AI approaches to neuroimaging and genetics.
  • Examining brain-behavior relationships after stroke using large-scale structural MRIs and behavioral datasets.
  • Participating in national clinical trials using brain stimulation and telerehabilitation to predict and improve stroke outcomes.
