About The Position

The primary role of the Research Lab Tech C is the technical processing of biospecimens and DNA isolations within the Penn Medicine BioBank. This involves handling various biospecimens including blood, tissue, and bodily fluids, with sample handling encompassing blood separation, advanced cell gradient, and tissue culture. DNA isolations will be performed using both automated and manual systems, along with all supporting aspects. The position requires strict adherence to SOPs, QC and QA policies, and ISBER Best Practices under the supervision of the Technical Director and Lab Manager. Responsibilities also include facilitating sample inventory and distribution, providing special handling for unusual specimens, freezer monitoring and on-call response, shipping biological specimens, record keeping, equipment maintenance/calibration, and ensuring safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Ability to interact easily with clinical and research staff.
  • Superb time management skills; be well organized and highly motivated.
  • Knowledge of PC applications and experience in database entry preferred.
  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting of supplies and equipment (20-40 pound load), and manual dexterity to select small vials from frozen storage locations.
