About The Position

Performs a variety of research and research administration activities in direct support of the Department's research faculty and programs. Responsible for managing the overall functioning of the research operation. Serves as a front-line resource for researchers in the Department, acting as liaison to internal administrative units and external sponsors on matters relating to research programs. The Ragon Institute is an internationally renowned immunology-focused research center located in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and with affiliations with MGH, Harvard, and MIT. Successful candidates will be immersed in a rich scientific community and become experts in team-based efforts to advance high-throughput drug development and establish cutting-edge drug screening approaches. The hired candidate will be an important part of a supportive, highly collaborative research environment with state-of-the-art facilities. The hired candidate will also be an affiliate of MIT, with access to MIT campus research resources and community facilities. The DeKosky Laboratory for Immune Engineering (www.dekoskylab.org) is hiring a new Laboratory Operations Manager to co-lead laboratory operations and implement cutting-edge scientific efforts. The hired candidate will coordinate the general management of laboratory operations and facilities related to the development and analysis of precision molecular therapeutics, including molecular biology, molecular immunology, and cell culture-based research. The hired candidate will also aid in the implementation of projects, the use of specialized techniques in the lab, and the training of new hired candidates in laboratory procedures and research techniques. This position will focus on both operations and research roles to advance projects from funding sources, including the federal government, non-profit organizations, internal funding opportunities. The hired candidate will work closely with a dynamic and collaborative team of researchers in the acquisition and analysis of scientific data. The ideal candidate must have a passion for team-based science within an academic environment. The hired candidate will play an integral role in the management DeKosky laboratory, and will be a part of cutting-edge research in precision and targeted therapeutics, especially related to global infectious diseases, cancer, and autoimmunity. Our laboratory members are intensely curious about immune protection and want to participate in the exciting world of understanding how immune responses can be effectively engineered to fight human diseases. The hired candidate will work closely with all team members and other research groups in The Ragon Institute to ensure consistent laboratory facilities and operations. The candidate will also work with our diverse scientific team of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, technical staff, and our extensive network of collaborators to perform scientific experiments, prepare new manuscripts, and to prepare scientific figures. Strong people skills are a necessity for the role in order to support continued team operations in collaboration with a variety of team members, as well as managing the laboratory systems together with external vendors. The position will provide an immersive and rich team-based environment in the molecular and engineering sciences.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required
Research experience (in a lab setting) 3-5 years required
Must be able to make independent, effective decisions in appropriate situations.
Must possess a scientific imagination commensurate with the independent execution of research projects.
Must have an aptitude for technical problem solving.
Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.
Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments to maximize research.
Must possess an aptitude for budget management.
Undergraduate degree with some experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, biotechnology or a related field.
Documented experience in molecular biology, such as RNA, DNA, and cloning.
Demonstrated record and interest in working in scientific laboratory settings in molecular biology or biotechnology.

Nice To Haves

Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred
Master’s degree or Ph.D. degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience in molecular immunology is also preferred.

Responsibilities

Responsible for oversight of all lab supply and equipment, purchasing and maintenance.
Coordinates all regulatory and compliance activities.
Trains staff in specialized lab techniques.
Assists with subject scheduling.
Provides input on strategy, based on knowledge of industry and trends.
Applies project management techniques to ensure development initiatives stay on track.
Contributes to scientific literature and may present the data at meetings.
Carries out independent research projects which involve the execution of highly sophisticated techniques.
