About The Position

Serves in the Department of Internal Medicine as Research Lab Manager responsible for the daily technical, scientific, compliance, fiscal, and administrative operations of the Acute Lung Injury (ALI) Research Program, a multi-disciplinary research program focused on the investigation of fundamental mechanisms in lung injury and repair utilizing advanced tools in molecular, biochemical, and clinical investigation, synergizing basic and translational discoveries; leads, plans and manages hiring, training, and supervision of staff of up to 10 research assistants, research associates and post-doctoral researchers as well as student workers; creates and optimizes protocols for experiments, instrumentation use, and techniques; initiates and implements amendments to protocols and procedures to increase productivity and streamline operations; creates new protocol submissions; responsible for compliance with Federal and University regulations, acting as primary contact with regulatory bodies; ensures continued compliance of staff, initiates training sessions as needed, and communicates new procedures or protocols; coordinates laboratory meetings as a forum for presentations from investigators on current research and leading a discussion of laboratory agenda items; acts as the point of contact between the lab and other PIs and their staff for any range of issues, including technical advice, regulatory protocol assistance, and shared equipment and space allocation issues; ensures that lab action items are addressed in timely fashion; works with managers of other laboratories to decide best use of shared space and resources to optimize research potential; researches new equipment and techniques and maintains all lab equipment, including arranging service and repairs; develops and recommends annual operating budget; implements, administers and oversees budget and expenditures.

Requirements
